Appropriate Use of Technology

The Orillia Channel Cats believe that athletes, coaches, officials, support staff, and volunteers have the right to participate in a safe and inclusive sport environment that is free of abuse, harassment, and discrimination.

Under no circumstances are cameras, cell phones, or other recording devices allowed in change rooms, bathrooms, any dressing area, on deck, behind the starting blocks, or during practice or competition starts. This aligns with policies that most aquatic centres have in place for the protection and privacy of individuals.

Failure to follow the appropriate use of technology may result in disciplinary action.

Privacy & Consent (PIPEDA)

The Orillia Channel Cats supports Swimming Canada's Personal Information Protection & Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This requires that consent be obtained prior to the collection and use of personal information, including posting information or photos to social media sites.

Swimmers are reminded not to share information or pictures of others on social media unless permission has been given.

Team & Club Photos/Videos

From time to time, OCCSC coaches and staff may take photos or videos of swimmers during practices, meets, and club events for team records, coaching purposes (such as stroke assessment), and promotion of the club. Before any swimmer is photographed or videotaped for these purposes, the club obtains consent from a parent or guardian.

Families are asked to indicate their photo/video preference on the club's On Deck Emergency Form, choosing one of the following options:

●       Full consent — images may be used for club purposes (website, newsletters, registration materials) and posted on OCCSC social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).

●       Internal use only — images may be used for club purposes but must not be posted on social media.

●       No consent — the swimmer may not be photographed or videotaped for any purpose. (Note: this also means the swimmer cannot be included in video-based stroke assessment, a training tool the club uses with consenting swimmers.)

A swimmer's photo/video preference remains in effect for the season and can be updated at any time by notifying the club.

Reporting Concerns

Any concerns about the use of cameras, recording devices, or photos/videos of swimmers should be reported to a coach or club administrator immediately.
