Welcome to all the families joining the Club this year and welcome back to all returning families and officials! My name is Lisa Loewen and I’m the Club Officials Chair for the Channel Cats. One of my jobs is to organize clinics for parent volunteers to learn to become a swimming official. At these clinics you learn the different roles involved in running a swim meet. By becoming a swimming official, you not only get to be on deck during a swim meet, but you also learn the rules of the sport and understand how meets are run.
New officials start with the Level 1 Clinic: Introduction to Swimming Officiating. After you take this clinic, you will be a Level 1 official and can volunteer as a Timekeeper at swim meets.
We will be running clinics on the following Saturdays: Oct 6, Nov 9 and Nov 23.
Level 1 Clinic: 6:30 am- 8:00 am (during Saturday morning swim practice).
Strokes and Turns Clinic: 8:00 am- 9:30 am
Chief Timer Clinic: 9:30 am -11:00 am
The clinics are held at the YMCA house, the grey house beside the upper parking lot.
I hope to see you at a clinic! If you’re not sure about officiating, come to a clinic and hear more about it. It’s a great way to get to know other parents in the club and it’s also a lot of fun! All officials who volunteer at a swim meet earn money into their Family Accounts, which can help to offset the cost of meet entry fees for your swimmer.
