Message from the President

On April 25th 2015 The Orillia Sports Council held their inaugural Orillia Sports Hall of Fame Gala at Hawk Ridge Golf and Country Club. I was fortunate enough to be present at the event when our very own Elaine Thompson was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in the Builder category.

It was a very special event that recognized greatness in Orillia sports history. Elaine was recognized for her achievements as a Channel Cats swim coach. Elaine has been involved with competitive swimming in Orillia for more than five decades! That in itself is an awesome achievement!

It was very special for Elaine’s family, including grandchildren to be present and celebrate with her. Meredith cried!

We are lucky to have her as a coach and mentor. Elaine has had an impact and influence on many swimmers over the years. Please take the time to congratulate Elaine when you see her.

Elaine, on behalf of the Board Members, congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! We are really lucky to have you as a member of our team. I look forward to seeing your picture on the wall in the Orillia Sports Hall of Fame, soon. (Hopefully near the new pool).

You are a great ambassador for the sport and an excellent role model for our young athletes.
